Field notes Acaulescent palm with leaves to 7-8 m long. Petiole ca. 2 m, ca. 45 leaflets per side, in grouops of 3-5, cucullate, spreading in different planes, to 65 cm long, 9 cm wide. Apex multifold. Petiole armed with collars of fierce, brown-black spines to 9 cm. Grooved with imprints of spines. Rachis armed with groups of spines abaxially. Inflorescence higlyy branched with many light brown, leathery bracts. Emerging 7125 cm from crown. 5 partial inflorescences with 5-8 rachillae each. Female flowers bright red.
