| Field notes | Clustering rattan climbing to 10 m. Ca 40 leaves on stem. Leafsheath green, with greyish-red indumentum when young, spines light brown with chestnut edges and yellow swollen base. Spines on knee. Leaf 330 cm incl. 5 cm petiole and 80 cm cirrus. 22 leaflets per side, mostly in pairs which are irregularly spaced. Leaflets sigmoid, cucullate, to 36 cm. Infructescence >100 cm long, 8 first-order branches, 11-12 cm apart, bracts glossy yellowish green, with recurved spines. Rachillae 5 cm long, 16-18 per first-order branches, 3 cm apart. Flowers very dense. Young fruits ovoid, 15 mm long. 12 mm wide, green scales with pale green and chestnut edge. Two leaflets inhabited by leaf-cutter ants |
