Field notes Clustering understory palm, stem 4 m incl. crownshaft of ca 150 cm, 4 cm in diameter. Internodes 12-20 cm, fresh green with sparse white firmly attached indumentum. Nodal scars ca 1 cm, pale brown. Leaf sheaths pale green, covered in dense rusty-red indumentum that rubs off easily, closed, 60 cm long. Leaf 3.5 m, pinnate. Petiole 120 cm, rachis 210 cm. Pinnae 2(-3) fold, regular, somewhat sigmoid, slightly ascending, inconspicuously mottled, 24 per side. Inflorescences infrafoliar, branched to 1 order, 7-9 rachillae, 12-25 cm long, bright green with sparse white indumentum, flowers somewhat sunken in pits, red, appearing distichious. Bract 15x6 cm, chestnut brown with sparse indumentum, fallen at anthesis. Habitat: edge of seasonally dry swamp.
