| Field notes | Solitary understory small palm with few visible roots. Stem 1 m long and 10 cm diam; internodes 2-3 cm long, shorter than stem diameter, brown. Crownshaft absent. Leaves 9 per stem; sheaths open, 50 cm long, with 12 cm long, black spines; petiole round in cross-section, 50 cm long with 4 cm long, black spines; rachis 230 cm long with black spines; lamina pinnate 80 cm wide, 230 cm long, flat, with 28 segment per side regularly inserted, basal pinna 40 cm long, middle pinna 60 cm long, apical pinna 40 cm long. Inflorescence interfoliar; peduncular bract 20 cm, woody, brown with 1 cm long, brown spines; rachis 5 cm, less than 1 cm wide; rachillae at least 25, 5-8 cm long; flowers cream colored, sessile |
