| Field notes | Cespitose understory small palm with few visible roots. Stem 3 m long and 3 cm diam; internodes 5-15 cm long, longer than stem diameter, brown, smooth. Crownshaft absent. Leaves 4 per stem; sheaths open, short, with 3 cm long, black spines; petiole round in cross-section, 100 cm long with 3 cm long, black spines; rachis 150 cm long with black spines; lamina pinnate 60 cm wide, 150 cm long, bushy, with 12-14 segment per side in groups of 2-3 in irregular insertion, basal pinna 20 cm long, middle pinna 40 cm long, apical pinna 40 cm long. (sigmoid leaflets; brown indument on rachis) |
