| Field notes | Cespitose palm forming a very dense cluster, to 10 m tall. Collected stem 330 cm long, 6.5 cm in diam. Internodes heavely armed with 2 7.5 cm long black spines. NO of leaves: 7, attached over 180 cm of the stem, leafsheat 140 cm long, petiole 50 cm; rachis 200 cm. No of pinnae 44 per side, in groups of 4 -5 - 3 - 3 - 3 - 3 - 3 - 3 - 6 - 11, the basal 24 in different angles, the basal of each group erect, the apical horizontal. Infructescence: 1, infrafoliar; prophyll bicarinate, 16.5 X 5 cm, without spines. Bract 66 cm long, spiny. Peduncle 22 cm, spiny. Rachis 11 cm, green. Rachillae: 41, basal 25 cm long, apical 18.5 cm. Young inflorescence still enclosed in prophyll: Horizontal and infrafoliar. Prophyll 14.5 X 5 cm, adpressed. Bract 46 cm, longest circumference 21 cm, diam. 6.5 cm, brown, spiny; peduncle 15 cm long, basal part cremy white, apical 6 cm brown, spiny; rachis 9 cm, with 44 rachillae. |
