| Field notes | Caespitose palm with 7 stems. Leaf rachis 207 cm, green, abaxial side with scattered dark-brown to 2.5 cm long spines. With 56 pinnae per side, inserted in groups of: 4, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 3, 3, 2, 3, 3, 1, 3, 4, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1. The pinnae are inserted in different angels, the basal pinnae of each group being more erect than the apical. Basal pinnae 60 x 5.6 cm, middle 74 x 8.5 cm, apical 27 x 3 cm. Inflorescence: Prophyl bicarinate, 7.5 cm wide and more than 20 cm long, the abaxial side with few to 1 cm long black spines; bract 67 cm long, 7.5 cm wide, inserted 7.5 cm above the base of the inflorescence and covered by a brown tomentum and (especially apically) by dark-brown to 1.5 cm long spines; peduncle 26 x 2.2 cm, covered by brown tomentum, rachis 20 cm long and yellow with brown tomentum; rachillae numbering 48, basal 27, middle 25.5 and apical 22 cm long. Fruits red, globular and 2.2 cm in diameter. |
