| Field notes | Solitary understory palm. Stem green, glabrous and bamboo-like, 28 cm tall, diam 15 cm. With five leaves. One spicate infructescence with orange colored rachis and green fruits, rachis 34 cm, peduncle 35 cm. Vernacular name: Macana panga (Quichua), which means "fighting leaf". Attached to spears the leaf helps to steer. Leaves are considered very good for thatch, used for this purpose they may last as long as 20 years. Informant: Angel (Quichua). |
