Field notes Solitary palm. Stem 450 cm, DBH: 15 cm, with green glabrous crownshaft, 75 cm long, and with 13 stiltroots (diam. 6 cm) armed with small spines. Seven leaves, petiole 155 cm, rachis 152 cm, with 20 pinnae on each side. Three infrafoliar infructescences with green fruits, peduncle 32 cm, rachis 14 cm, with 11 rachillae. Vernancular name: Chingu (Quichua). Stiltroots used to make "raspador" to grind green bananas ("verdes"). Useful for this purpose because of the spines. The trunks serve as house pots and for floors in the houses.
