| Field notes | Solitary palm left in occasionally flooded pasture. Stem 325 cm tall with persistent leafbases on the upper half. 15 leaves, petiole 35 cm, rachis 210 cm, no. of pinnae 2 x 55. Infructescence almost circular, 15 cm in diam. this individual with 10 infructescences. Vernacular name: Chapi, fruits are called Jinkiai (Achuar). Mesocarp as well as immature endosperm is eaten. Leaves are commonly used for thatch. |
