| Field notes | Cespitose midstory palm. Stem 5 m high, 4 cm thick, covered with 6 cm long spines. Roots 8 visible, 12 cm long, 1.5 cm thick. Leaves 7 per stem; sheath 31 cm long, open, with 4 cm long black spines; petiole 32 cm long, section round; rachis 123 cm long, with a brown indumentum and 2 cm long yellow spines; lamina pinnate; pinnae 11 per side, pilose and with scattered to 4 cm long spines below; basal pinna 19 cm long, 5 cm wide, middle pinna 29 cm long, 15 cm wide, apical pinna 31 cm long, 48 cm wide. Infructescence interfoliar, upright; prophyll 43 cm long, woody; peduncle 186 cm long, with 1-2 cm long yellow spines; rachis 39 cm long; rachillae 15, 8-37 cm long. Fruits immature, green, 1x1 cm.
