Field notes Caespitose. Stems 15, densely clustered, to 5 m tall, 5-6 cm diam. Leaves 4 or more; sheath 50 cm; petiole 15 cm; rachis 140 cm; pinnae 14 per side. Infructescence interfoliar, erect; prophyll 70 x 4 cm, cream at base, brown, fibrous above; peduncular bract fibrous decaying, hanging down; peduncle 100 cm, green, densly armed with slender, yellow spines to 3 cm; rachis 80 cm, green, basally armed like peduncle, setose above; rachillae 90, the lower inserted 30 cm below the next, 52 cm long, pedunculate for 20 cm; fruits red, soon becoming black sith dry mesocarp, 8 x 7 mm, slightly rostrate, most fruits abortive with no seeds formed.
