| Field notes | Cespitose. Stem 33 cm, 3-4 cm diam, internodes less than 0.5 cm, base with numerous adventitious roots, these to 3 cm, 3 mm thick. Leaves 6; sheath of lower leaf 10 cm; petiole 80 cm, rounded below, grooved above basally, flat above apically; rachis 68-72 cm; pinnae 6-8 per side, 1-4 veined, basal pinnae 37 x 5 cm, middle pinnae 42 x 6 cm, apical pinnae 29 x 9 cm. Inflorescences 1-2 per plant, interfoliar, spicate; prophyll 13 cm, 1.5 cm wide; peduncular bract 26 cm, inserted 0.6 cm above prophyll; peduncle 52 cm, 0.5 cm wide, flat, light brown, tomentose; rachis 20 cm, 1 cm wide, with a pointed apex; fruits ovate, green to yellow, 0.8 x 0.6 cm. Note: one inflorescence seen with both staminate and pistillate flowers at anthesis. When injured a red liquid is seen flowing from the peduncle. |
