| Field notes | Cespitose, with up to 20 stems. Stem 10 m, 8 -10 cm diam. Leaves 5; sheath 70 cm, old sheaths persistent; petiole 16 cm, ~3 cm diam., with brown tomentum; rachis 200 cm; pinnae 54 per side in group of 2 - 5, basal pinnae 50 X 2 cm, middle pinnae 75 X 8 cm, apical pinnae 32 X 5 cm. Inflorescence buds 2, inserted in the axis of an old leafsheath; prophyll 20 X 7 cm, spiny abaxially peduncular bract 60 cm, 11 cm diam. at middle, spinous, specially at apex, spines black, 1 cm long. Infructescence inserted like bud; prophyll 18 X 10 cm; peduncular bract 60 cm, 8 cm diam.; peduncle 18 cm, 2 cm wide, brown tomentose; rachis 16 cm; rachillae 45, green, with a brown, caducous tomentum, lower rachillae 21 cm, upper rachillae 15 cm; immature fruits green. |
