Leaves 5, erect and arching; sheath 80 cm, closed for 20-30 cm, dark brown, densely armed with black, flat, tomentose-margined spines to 8 cm; petiole 100 cm, rounded below, flat to rounded above, green, caducous-tomentose, unarmed; rachis 220-260 cm, rounded below, ridged above, green, unarmed; pinnae 17-19 per side, in groups of 3, the lower of each group shorter and more erect than the upper, basal pinnae 26-45 x 1-13 cm, middle pinnae 37 x 15 cm (lower group), 58 x 17 cm (upper of a group), apical pinnae 35-40 x 25-32 cm. Inflorescnece at pistillate anthesis (taken from an other plant) interfoliar, pendulous; prophyll 50 x 5.5 cm, margins cream adaxially, green abaxially, abaxial side densely covered centrally with short, brown setae, adaxialy side cream-green, smooth; peduncular bract 205 cm, tubular for 60 cm, upper part hanging down, this brown, chartaceous, unarmed; peduncle 115 cm, green, armed with black, flat, tomentose-margined spines to 3 cm; rachis 80 cm, armed basally; rachillae 60, the lower 38 with pistillate flowers, to 85 cm, upper 25 cm. |
