Field notes Solitary. Stem 15 m, 41 cm DBH, upper 12 m covered with persistent leafsheaths, brown, internodes 6-14 cm, leafscars visible as oblique rings. Leaves 18, the younger erect, mature leaves arching and spreading with rachis twisted so pinnae appear in a vertical plane; sheath open to base, 60 cm wide ta base; sheath and petiole 230 cm, 10 cmwide at junction with rachis, 6 cm thick, rounded below, channeled above, margins sharp, with fibers 33 x 0.5 cm; rachis 10.34 m, rounded below, channeled above with a central ridge; pinnae 181 per side, opposite to subopposite, eavidistantly inserted in one plane, basal pinnae 162 x 1.5 cm, middle pinnae 140 x 7 cm, apicalpinnae 64 x 1 cm. Infructescence interfoliar, recurving, 64 cm diam; prophyll dropped; peduncular bract dropped; peduncle 80 cm, 6 cm wide, 2 cm thick, ovate, light green; rachis86 cm; rachillae ca. 300; fruits ca. 300, densely aggregated.
