Field notes Solitary. Stem 20 m, 101 cm circumference, base supported by a cone of adventitious roots 52 cm high, 152 cm circumference, these 0.5-1 cm wide, light-dark brown, internodes 15-17 cm, leafscars visible as oblique rings, upper part of stem covered with persistent leafsheaths. Leaves 15, erect, in 5 rows; sheath open, continous with petiole, sheath + petiole 222 cm, 8 cm wide at junction with rachis, 6 cm thick, rounded below, channeled above with a central ridge, green with a white mealy tomentum, margins fibrous; rachis 630 cm, green, terminating in a 60 cm long umbo, rounded below, ridged above, lateral sides vertical 3.5 cm high; pinnae 231 per side, inserted in groups of 2-4, spaced by ca. 6 cm, the lower of each group more erect than the upper, all pinnae pendulous, basal pinnae 67 x 1.5 cm, middle pinnae 145 x 6.5 cm, apical pinnae 84 x 1.5 cm. Inflorescence bud interfoliar, erect, staminate; prophyll ca. 100 cm, strongly fibrous, bicarinate; peduncular bract 215 cm, 18 cm diam at middle, apex with a 50 cm long solid point. Inflorescence bud (pistillate) interfoliar. Inflorescence (staminate) interfoliar, recurving, with strong scent; prophyll fibrous; peduncular bract 190 cm, 84 cm wide, longitudinally furrowed, light brown tomentose, apex with a 50 cm long, 5 cm thick solid point; peduncle 89 cm, 8 cm wide, 3 cm thick at base, 7 cm wide, 2 cm thick at apex, yellowish green; rachis 104 cm; rachillae ca 1000, 20 cm long. Inflorescences past anthesis 2, interfoliar. Infructescence (decaying) interfoliar.
