Field notes Solitary. Acaulescent or with a stem up to 20 cm, 2 cm diam., internodes 1 cm. Leaves 8 - 10, erect, arching; petiole 50 - 60 cm, rounded below, shallowly grooved above, green; rachis 60 - 65 cm, rounded below, ridged above; pinnae 10 - 11 per side, regularly inserted, 2 - 4 veined, basal pinnae 28 X 4 cm, middle pinnae 34 X 4 cm, apical pinnae 23 X 6 cm, all pinnae more or less sigmoid and cuneate. Inflorescence interfoliar, erect, spicate; prophyll 23 - 28 cm, 1 - 1.3 cm wide; peduncular bract 28 - 31 cm, inserted just above prophyll, 1.2 cm wide; peduncle 27 - 51 cm, 0.4 - 0.6 cm wide, often twisted, flattened, red on apical part; rachis 28 - 32 cm, 0.8 - 1.2 cm wide, with a pointed apex, red brown, flowers at staminate anthesis; fruits (from another specimen) globose, black, 6 mm diam. Note: often found on rather low lying terrain.
