| Field notes | Caespitose. Acaulescent with a short subterrannean stem, this procumbent with spines ca. 1 cm long. Leaves 5-9, erect, arching; sheath 15 cm, open with few spines to 3 cm; petiole 40-50 cm, green, rounded, unarmed; rachis 40-50 cm, rounded below, ridged above, unarmed; pinnae 12-13 per side, regularly dispersed or in groups of 2-6, all more or less in the same plane, basal pinnae 13 x 2.5 cm, middle pinnae 16 x 4 cm, apical pinnae 18 x 9 cm, all pinnae silverish white below. Inflorescence interfoliar, erect, reaching above the leaves; prophyll 33 cm, 1 cm wide, unarmed; pedundular bract, 75 cm, wited, fibrous; peduncle 115 cm, 0.5 cm wide basally, 0.3 cm wide apically, densely setose; rachis 10 cm; pistillate flowers past anthesis, all flowers in 2 rows on upper side of basal 7 cm of rachillae. |
