Field notes Cespitose, with up to 20 stems per clump. Stem up to 5 m, 1-2 cm diam, brown, internodes 5-15 cm. Leaves 5-6, erect; sheath 16 cm, closed for 2 cm, fibrous margins; petiole 28 cm, rounded below, flat above; rachis 40 cm, pinnae 3-7 per side, 1-10 veined, sigmiid, shining green (lustrous) above, lower pinnae 25 x 5 cm, middle pinnae 28 x 11 cm, apical pinnae 20 x 11 cm. Inflorescence bud infrafoliar, prophyll 12 cm, 1.2 cm wide, erect, no peduncular bract. Inflorescence infrafoliar, inserted 2 nodes below the crown, prophyll decidous; no peduncular bract; peduncle 6 cm, 0.8 cm wide, wine red; rachis 25 cm, 1.2 cm wide, green with a brown indumentum; flowers red. Inflorescence infrafoliar; peduncle 5 cm, 0.8 cm wide, red; rachis 22 cm, 1.2 cm wide, red; fruits black, ovate, 0.9 cm, 0.7 cm wide. Up to several inflorescences and infructescences per plant.
