| Field notes | Stem up to 3 m, 1.5 cm diam., green; internodes 1.5 cm below crown; leafscars prominent. Leaves 5, erect, arching; sheath 21 cm, slightly fibrous at margins; petiole 50 cm, 0.4 cm wide, rounded below, flat above, edges sharp, green, rachis 37 cm with a pronounced ridge above; pinnae 3 - 5 per side; basal pinnae 28 X 5 cm, middle pinnae 30 X 7 cm, apical pinnae 24 X 8 cm. Inflorescences 2, inter- to infrafoliar, once branched; prophyll 15 cm, 1 cm wide, brown, fibrous; peduncular bract persistent, disintegrating on peduncle, 16 cm, inserted 5 cm above prophyll; peduncle 24 cm, 0.3 cm wide, red apically; rachis 1 cm; rachillae 3,15 cm, red; fruits ovate, green, 0.8 cm, 0.6 cm wide. Note: This species is capable of producing new shoots with juvenile foliage from apex of broken stems. Specimens at pistillate and staminate anthesis observed and collected. |
