| Field notes | Cespitose with up to 4 stems. Stem 3-5 m, 3.5-5 cm diam, sparsely spiny, internodes 9 cm 2 cm below crown, 2 cm just below crown; sheath 42 cm, open almost to base; petiole 45 cm; rachis 115 cm; pinnae 10-11 per side, inserted in paris, spaced by 15 cm, basal pinnae 15 x 8 cm, middle pinnae (upper of a pair) 40 x 19 cm, middle pinnae (lower of a pair) 32 x 18 cm, apical pinnae 32 x 25. Inflorescence bud interfoliar, erect; prophyll 73 cm, cream at base, green in central part, brown, wilted, fibrous apically, with spines ca. 5 mm long, abaxially; peduncular bract 120 cm, cream at base, green above, brown-tomentose, 2.2 cm diam., with no spines; rachis 75 cm; rachillae 180. |
