Field notes Solitary. Stem 8 m, 8 cm diam. at base, upper part light brown. Leaves 8, spreading; sheath of lower leaf 42 cm, open to base, bending away from trunk for 14 cm, margins with coarse brown fibers; petiole 35 cm, rounded below, with two grooves above, margins sharp, light green; rachis 160 cm; pinnae 6 - 13 per side, 1 - 17 veined, sigmoid, basal pinnae 53 X 10 cm, middle pinnae 64 X 9 cm, apical pinnae 56 X 21 cm. Inflorescense buds 2, interfoliar; prophyll 30 cm, 8 cm wide; peduncular bract 24 cm, 7 cm wide, enclosed in the prophyll, inserted 1.5 cm above prophyll. Inflorescence 1, interfoliar, pendulous; prophyll not seen; peduncular bract not seen; peduncle 22 cm, 2 cm wide, green; rachis 36 cm, green; 1. order rachillae 14, the upper 9 simple; lower 1. order rachillae (23 cm), with 9.2 order rachillae, these 28 cm, 0.6 cm wide, green. Note: Seedlings and juveniles of this species are very common in the forest.
