| Field notes | Solitary. Stem ca. 8 m, 8 - 9 cm diam., light brown, internodes 2 - 3 cm on the upper part of the stem. Leaves 11; sheath 53 cm, open to the base, red brown, with a fibrous margin; petiole 11 cm, 3.5 cm wide, rounded below, flattened above, green with a reddish tinge; rachis 136 cm; pinnae 54 per side, 1 - 3 veined, in groups of three 1- veined and one 3-veined pinnae, the 1-veined pinnae inserted horizontally, the 3-veined pinnae point upwards, thus giving the whole leaf a crispy appearance, lower pinnae 51 X 2.5 cm, middle pinnae (1-veined) 57 X 2.5 cm, middle pinnae (3-veined) 64 X 7.5 cm, apical pinnae 43 X 2.5 cm. Inflorescence buds infrafoliar; prophyll to 41 cm, 12 cm wide, glabrous, reddish brown; 1. peduncular bract 36 cm, 12 cm wide, completely enclosed in the prophyll, inserted 2 cm above prophyll, green; 2. peduncular bract 20 cm, split almost to base, inserted 3 cm above 1. peduncular bract; flowerpits glabrous inside; staminate flowers with reflexed anthers; pistillate flowers with a crenate staminodial tube. Inflorescences 2, infrafoliar, inserted 22 cm below lowermost leaf, to three times branched; prophyll not seen; peduncular bract not seen, inserted 1 cm above prophyll; peduncle 22 cm, 6 cm wide basally, 4 cm wide apically; rachis 60 cm; 1. order rachillae 23 - 28, the upper 6 - 11 simple; lower 1. order rachillae 32 cm, 2 cm wide, with 15 2. order rachillae, the upper 11 2. order rachillae simple, lower 2. order rachillae 5 cm, with three 3. order rachillae; upper 1. order rachillae 27 - 30 cm, 1 cm wide, green.
