| Field notes | Solitary. Stem 30 cm, 4 cm in diam., armed with flat black spines in bands below the nodes; internodes 1-2 cm. Leaves 7, erect and arching; sheath 16 cm, open almost to base, spiny; petiole 46 cm, green, rounded below, flat above, with sparse spines to 6 cm; rachis 107 cm, green, rounded below, ridged above, with few spines on lower side; surfaces covered with yellow, hairlike spines, ca. 5 mm long, basal pinnae 16 x 2 cm, middle pinnae 20 x 3.5 cm, apical pinnae 17 x 5 cm. Sterile. Common name "Chontilla", according to local informant. Uses none. |
