| Field notes | Small, solitary, understory palm, growing in dense shade in secondary forest. Stem 50 cm, 0.9 cm diam, creeping, rooting at the nodes; internodes 5 - 6 cm. Leaves 8; sheath 6 - 8 cm, gradually tapering into the petiole; petiole 16 cm, green, rounded below, flat above; rachis up to 30 cm; leafblade entire, 42 X 11 cm, bifid for 11 cm, primary veins ca. 20 per side. Inflorescences 2, only 1 per node, spicate, interfoliar, protruding from the leaf bases of the lower leaves; prophyll 5 - 8 cm, 0.6 cm wide; peduncular bract not seen, inserted 7 cm above the prophyll; peduncle 9 - 10 cm, reddish brown; rachis 10 cm; flowerpits ca. 40 - 50 . |
