| Field notes | 1st. individual: Subterranean stem, about 30 cm long, 2 cm in diam. with roots up to 50 cm long and 3 mm in diam. Leaves 12: sheath 15 cm with black spines, petiole 18-23 cm green with a few black spines, rachis 50 to 60 cm almost unarmed, 15-16 pinnae on each side almost regulary distributed in one plane, strongly plicate, glabrous, pinnae at base 13-18 cm x 1-1.5 cm, pinnae at middle 20-22 cm x 2-2.5 cm, pinnae at apex 20-22 cm x 3-4 cm. Inflorescence with pistillate flowers: prophyll 12 x 1 cm, peduncle 95 cm x 5 mm at base and 3 mm at apex, spike 17 cm x 5-6 mm, pistillate flowers green to yellow. Infructescence with immature fruit: peduncle 77 cm, spike 12 cm long incomplete. 2nd individual (growing 1 m from the first): Stem rerct 20 cm high, 4 to 5 cm in diam. Leaves 11: sheath 14 cm, petiole 16-18 cm, rachis 42-52 cm, 15-16 pinnae on each side15-16 pinnae on each side almost regulary distributed in one plane, pinnae at base 15-18 cm x 0.5-1. cm, at middle 17-20 cm x 1-1.5 cm, at apex 12-23 cm x 2-5 cm. Inflorescence with staminate flowers: peduncle 45 cm, spike 14 cm x 6 mm, staminate flowers yellowish-green. |
