| Field notes | Trunk 5 m in height, 17 cm in diam. Spines on trunk, in groups at node. 10 contemporaneous leaves. Sheaths of dead leaves persistent 1-2 m on the trunk below the crown. Leaves: 108-110 pairs of pinnae. Rachis 5.1 m. Sheath + petiole: 2.2 m. Spines not very dense on sheath and petiole back, 0.5 to 10 cm long. On the margin on petiole, shorter spines, 1-4 cm long, in higher density. No spines on rachis, brown lepidote. Margin of sheath, tissue-like, purplish. Apical pinnae: 40 cm x 2.5 cm. Median pinnae 145 cm x 7 cm. Basal pinnae 104 cm x 11 cm |
