| Field notes | In primary, evergreen, seasonal hardwood forest on sandstone bedrock. Scrambling palm to 5 m long, basal diameter 1-3 cm, leaf sheaths green -red-brown mottled, especially visible toward the apex. Spines dark brown, on raised light green bumps. Petiole 15-20 cm, spiny rachis ea. 80 cm long, pinnae dark glossy green above, pale green below, 10-16 pinnae, flagellum to 80 cm long, light green in colour, no conspicuous ocrea, knee inconspicuous but present; new emerging leaf and petioles covered in white waxy layer. Fruits green when immature, ripening whitish, approx. 1 cm long x 0.6 cm wide. DNA at Kew. |
