Field notes Palm population left in a field that belongs to the village. Many branched individuals of Borassus present in the region. Borassus aethiopum mart. var. senegalensis. The induvidual collected is unbranched. The trunk is 10,5 m tall. Trunk diam. at different hights: 1 m: 23,4 cm; 2 m: 27,3 cm; 3 M: 25,0 cm; 4 m: 36,6 cm; 5 m: 39,8 cm; 6 m: 39,0 cm; 7 m: 35,8 cm; 8 m: 29,6 cm; 9 m: 33,5. Crown of 20 green leaves. Leaf bases surrounding the trunk. Leaf base and petiole split open giving place for the inflorescence to develop and descend through the slit. Petioles light green to slightly yellowish with black margins. Leaf bases 80, 100 and 90 cm long. Petioles (not including leaf bases) 150, 150 and 174 cm long. Leaf blade 192, 191 and 179 cm long with 80 segments. The basal segments are 86 cm long. Abaxial slits of the blade variable. Basally: 82 cm; middle part: 80 cm; apically: 89 cm. Adaxial slits c. 30 cm long. 1st prophyll 42 cm. 1st peduncular bract 53 cm. 2nd peduncular bract 56 cm. Inflorescence 220 cm long with 14 branches, 28-77 cm long, each branch sustaining a cluster of 1-4 rachillae, 30-42 cm long, 13 cm in circumference. Inflorescence at anthesis collected. Flowers whitish with a faint scent.
