| Field notes | Palm population left in a field that belongs to the village. Many branched induviduals of Borassus present in the region. Borassus aethiopum Mart. var. senegalensis. The individual collected has two branches. The unbranched part of the trunk is 8,4 m long, each of the two branches are equal in size and 2,5 m long. Trunk 36 cm in diam. at breast height (at 130 cm). Trunk diam. at different hights: 1 m: 38,5 cm; 2 m: 31,0 cm; 3 m: 26,1 cm; 4 m: 25,6 cm; 5 m: 25,5 cm; 6 m: 27,3 cm; 7 m: 27,8 cm; 8 m: 36,0 cm; 9 m (branches): 26,3 cm and 26,1 cm. Crowns of 21 and 23 green leaves. Leaf bases surrounding the trunk. Leaf base and petiole split open giving place for the inflorescence to develop and descend through the slit. Petioles light green to slightly yellowish with black margins. Leaf bases 85, 81 and 80 cm long. Petioles (not including leaf bases)130, 150 and 153 cm long. Leaf blade 164, 175 and 169 cm long with 45 segments. The basal segments are 147 cm long. Abaxial slits of the blade variable. Basally: 112; middle part: 105 cm; apically: 81 cm. Adaxial slits c. 14 cm long. 1st prophyll 34 cm. 1st bract 40 cm. |
