| Field notes | Clustering herb, cluster 3 m wide, shoots to 2.50 m tall including inflorescence, the smallest ones about 120 cm tall. Leaves 2-4 per shoot if flowering, 6-8 on young sterile shoots. Blade green above with pale green stripe along the midrib, below a little shiny but same color, sheath 27-50 cm long, petiole 43-100 cm long incl. pulvinus, blade 42-77 x 15-28 cm. Peduncle 135-205 cm long, dull green. Synflorescence 38-53 cm long, the 3-4 lower nodes with up to 3 branches each. Flowers white. Fruit light greyish-green, shining, rounded-triangular in cross-section. Seed black, with orange aril. Common in edge of Sago forest, occasional inside wet part of Sago forest. Most mature leaves of this plant are ripped in all observed clusters. |
