| Field notes | Epiphytic tree, stem to 3 m tall, to 10 cm in diam. branched from base, branches erect. Leaves on flowering branches with sheath ca. 7 cm long, closed for 5 cm; ligule 15-16 cm long. 2.5 cm wide at base, inhabited by ants; petiole 48-58 cm long, 1.3 cm wide, green with numerous brown lenticels, glabrous; leaflets 10 or in uppermost leaf 9; petioles of basal leaflets 6-8 cm long, those of central leaflets 15-18 cm long, 3-5 mm in diam.; central leaflets 50-55 x 17-19 cm, green with paler nerves, glabrous. Inflorescence ca. 70 cm long, with 41 branches, subtended by deciduous bracts; branches 55-80 cm long, green to purple, with a thin brown tomemtum. Flowers in umbels; peduncle 1-2.5 cm long, ca. 1 mm in diam.; pedicels 13-16 per umbel, 1-7 mm long. Flowers greenish yellow; calyx nearly truncate, 1-1.5 mm long, with five minute triangular teeth; petals united in calyptra, 1-2 mm long; stamens 5, rarely 6, fialment 2-2.5 mm long, anthers ca. 1.5 mm long, pale yellow; styles 5, forming a 1-2 mm high cone. Flowers produce small amounts of nectar. Odour very faint. Many individuals of this species seen in flower in the area. Measures in this description all refer to fresh material |
