| Field notes | Caespitose, largest stem 10 m tall, 12 cm diam. Leaves 9, spreading; sheaths open, but forming a crownshaft like structure 1 m long, dark green distally, sheaths ca. 80 cm long, lmargins lined with brown fibers; peduncle 70 cm long, rounded below, chanelled above, dark green; rachis ca. 4 m long; pinnae regularly inserted or sometimes equally spaced pairs very close to each other, or in groups of up to 4 spaced by ca. 10 cm; pinnae 73 per side, more or less in one plane or slightly spreading, dark green above, bluish-greyish green below. Inflorescence buds hidden behind sheaths. Inflorescences infra foliar on nodes 2-5 below sheaths, prophyll woody, 45-50 x ca. 10 cm, narrowly winged; bract arched, to 70 cm long, elliptic in x.s, ca. 6 x 4 cm, acuminate 10 cm, deciduous; peduncle 8 cm long, base clasping; rachis 8-10 cm long, brown tomentose; rachillae 50-100, pendulous. |
