| Field notes | Caespitose, spiny liana, to 30 stems in cluster, these 2-4 cm in diam., 1-2 cm in diam. with sheaths pealed off. Leaves inserted ca. 30 cm apart along most of stem; sheath 50 cm long, + continued 9-17 cm above petiole, exposed part with short thick spines; petiole 8-17 cm long; rachis130-180 cm long, with 0-11 pairs of pinnae, inserted almost to apex (5-10 cm from it). Apical 1-2 pairs of pinnae strongly reduced, not much larger than spines, max. 1-2 cm long. Immature fruit yellow, not accessible. |
