Field notes A robust erect herb, about 4 m tall, growing in large stands in shallow water of the channel, common name: "plantanillo". Large long petioled leaves, born at the plant base and along erect stems. Loose, open racemes of purple flowers are borne at the tops of the stems. Groups of 1-2 flowers are subtended by sheathing bracts
