San Isidro area, upper Rio Jama valley of central Manabi privince. Collecting in a montane forest, primary growth. Collection area located between Nueve de Octubre and Las Brisas. Forest in process of being cleared and burned to create new fields. Colleting forest dominants. Primarily an evergreen formation.

Field notes
A tall tree, used for firewood, common name: "valcasar". Opposite dark green leaves, sessile, somewhat leathery, about 50 cm long and 20 cm wide. Upper leaf surfaces have a bumpy appearance, caused by small veins "bunching up" the leaf tissue. Branches are reddish when young, with soft white pubescence. Foliar stipules present.
