Field notes
Very common sub-shrub on rocky banks. 1-1/2 m tall, much branched from the base. Usually submerged by high water. Inflorescence with tripartite ends. Male flowers surrounded by female. Black ants common on inflorescences. Fruits and leaves can be eaten. Bark can be peeled off and applied to wounds.
