| Field notes | habit: monoeceous clustered (1-5 stems) palm of the understory of 1.5-4m heigth. stem: up to 3m long, 20-25mm in diameter; internodes 3.5-7.5cm long. leaves: +/- 6 leaves; total length +/- 160cm, usually trijugate but older leaves splitting their pinnae into various; sheaths: green, +/- 30cm long, tubular, totally enclosing the stem; petiole: +/- 25-40cm long, green; rachis: +/- 70cm long, green; inflorescence/infructescence: single, infrafoliar, monoeceous, +/- horizontal with stiff spreading rachillae, branched to 1st order; peduncle: greenish-white, 5-7cm long, bearing prophyll (brown, deciduous, 10-12cm long) and 1st peduncular bract (light brown, deciduous, +/- 30cm long); rachis: 7-9cm long, white, bearing 13-18 white rachillae, +/20cm long; flowers: in triads, these widely spaced and spirally arranged on the rachillae, the terminal 1/6 with male flowers only; male flowers with greenish-white perianth, stamina and pistillode white, female ones whitish, stigmas hyaline; fruit: mature fruit violet-black, 12x5mm, with a basal stigmatic remain, peduncle, rachis and rachillae of the infructescence light purple |
