Huanuco, region of Pucallpa, western part of the "Sira mountains" and adjacent lowland; ca. 26 km S of Puerto Inca, next to the junction of the Rio Pachitea and Rio Yayapichis, biological field station "Panguana". Primary lowland rain forest with some xeromorphic elements, partly low, partly disturbed by local agriculture and logging. Soils: white sand or brown latosols with rocky outcrops.

Field notes Habit: Clustering scandent palm (3 stems), of the understory of a height of 3 m (but up to 6 m). Stem: 4m lenght, 3 mm in diameter; internodes +/- 18 cm long. Leaves remaining on the stem, only in very old stems basally deciduos; total lenght 80 - 90 cm; sheats: green, distally with short black spines, tubular, totally enclosing the stem, 18 - 19 cm + a 6 - 7 cm long tube above the petiole; petiole: 3 cm long, abaxially keeled; rachis: green, with some hooklike spines, 60 - 70 cm long with 5 - 6 pairs of +/- opposite leaflets and 4 acanthophylls. Inflorescence: single, interfoliar, penduloud, branched to 1st order, monoecious, protogynous; peduncle: green, 38 cm long, bearing prophyll and 1st peduncular bract (green, at anthesis yellowish-green, with dense short black spines) rachis: green, 9 cm, bearing 12 spirally arranged green rachillae, 3.5 - 5 cm long; flowers: female whitish, male flowers creamy-yellow, basally arranged in triads, the distal 1/3 og the rachillae only with male flowers in pairs or single.
