| Locality | Dept. Huanuco, region of Pucallpa, western part of the "Sira mountains" and adjacent lowland; ca. 26 km S of Puerto Inca, next to the junction of the Rio Pachitea and Rio Yuyapichis, biological field station "Panguana". Primary lowland rain forest with some xeromorphic elements, partly low, partly disturbed by local agriculture and logging. Soils: white sands or brown latosols with rocky outcrops. |
| Field notes | habit: palm of the understory of 3-4m heigth. stem: up to 2.5m length, 3cm in diameter; internodes +/- 1cm long. leaves: +/-12 leaves; total length +/- 250cm; sheaths: greenish- brown, +/- 20cm long, basally surrounding the stem, then splitting into fibres opposite the petiole; petiole: +/60-80cm long, green; rachis: 100-130cm long, green, bearing 8-12 irregularely arranged leaflets. inflorescence/infructescence: single, infrafoliar, +/- horizontal, branched to 3rd order, monoeceous, protandrous; peduncle: purple-red, c. 25cm long, dorsiventrally flattened, basally 27x14mm, distally 21x13mm; bearing 2 peduncular bracts (+/- 20cm long, 1st brown, 2nd light yellowish-brown, non persistent, enclosing totally the folded and twisted inflorescence in bud); rachis: c. 50cm long, purple red, bearing +/- 10 primary branches, the basal ones with 2nd order branches and rachillae, the distal ones with rachillae only; c. 120 rachillae in total, 18-21cm long, purple-red at anthesis, bearing flowers in triads in pits; flowers: perianth red-brown, stamina, staminodia and stigmas white; fruit: mature fruit black-violet, 6-7mm in diameter without stigmatic remain but with persisting dry, brown perianth; endocarp thin but woody, 5.5-6mm.Note: Fruits were collected at 15.
