Field notes Tree ca. 10 m x 25 cm; with up to 50 cm high stilt-roots; internodes filled with pith; lamina to 65x65 cm; petiole to 50 cm long; stipules to ca. 30 cm long; peduncle to 7.5 cm long; spathe to 19 cm long; spikes 3-5, to 15x1 cm; young twigs green with a bluish (waxy) layer; stipules pale pink to greenish; petiole at the base reddish, for the rest pale brown; main veins of the lamina pale brown to pinkish-red beneath; trichilia present!, even producing food bodies!; lamina with 7-8 incisions, in the upper part of the lamina down to ca. 2/3 in the lower part to ca. 1/3(-1/4); inflorescences 1-2/leaf axil, patent; no biting (Azteca) ants; in some branches small ant neste with the entrance through the scar of the petiole.
