Field notes Perennial herb to 30 cm. Leaves basal and cauline; sheaths (especially the lower leaves) purplish tinged; blades narrowing towards sheath, abruptly acute at apex, 3-veined, glossy green on the adaxial side, often reddish on abaxial surface. Inflorescence paniculate, overtopped by the leaf-like bracts. Spikelets purplish, arranged in peduncled, globose clusters. Female flower with 2 white stigma's. Fruits lenticular, white, puberulent. Habitat: Lowland rain forest.
