| Field notes | Stem c. 16 m tall, solitary, diam. in central part c. 20-25 cm; no stilt roots. Stem pale greyish and smooth except for numerous, black, stiff, sharp, up to 4 cm long spines. Dist. between internodes on stem: c. 10 No of mature leaves: ca 15. Length of leaf blade 1.5- 2.5 m. Length of free part of petiole: c. 1 m. Upper part of stem formed by petioles ca 2 m long incl. free part of petioles. No of inflo.: 3, pendent. Fruits brownish red, rather fleshy. Wood white, sugary. |
