| Field notes | Height 10m, solitary, stem length 13m, leaf length 1.8m incl. petiole 35cm and cirrus 70cm, leaflets 52 per side, concolorous, regular, leaf sheaths bright green at stem tip (uppermost 1 m) with long, thin black spines forming ant galleries (ea. 3 per internode), antinfested, with ants building cartilage nests in galleries and connecting galleries by cartilage tunnels, in mid stem part only green sheaths remaining, black spines absent, collars reduced to very pronounced green ridges with only stumps of spines remaining, scattered thin long spines to 8 cm persistent |
