| Field notes | Caespitose palm forming a dense cluster of about 100 stems, to 7 m tall, 1.5 m in diam. Collected stem 3 m long, diam 2.5 cm; internodes 7 cm long, with black, applanate spines to 2 cm long, inserted in half-circle shaped rows just below the nodes. Leaves 3-4 per stem, spreading; sheath 51 cm long, green, armed with black to 4 cm long spines, the basal 1/3-1/2 with a brown pubescence; petiole 26 cm long, green, the basal 8 cm spiny on the adaxial side; rachis 92.5 cm long; pinnae inserted in groups of 2-3-3-3- 3-1 / 3-2-4-4-1 (base-apex), in different angles, the basal pinna of each group nearly vertical, the apical horizontal, basal pinna 33 x 7 cm, middle pinna 32 x 6 cm, apical pinna 47.5 x 17 cm. Inflorescence; prophyll bicarinate, 24 cm long, 2.5 cm wide; bract 35.5 cm long; peduncle 21 cm long; rachis 5 cm long; rachillae 13, basal 11, middle 10 cm long, apical 8 cm long. |
