Field notes Solitary palm 7 m tall. Stem 5 m long, green, with prominent brown nodes. Diam. at base 6.5 cm, dbh. 5.5 cm, diam. below the crownshaft 6 cm. Basal internode 13 cm long, apicaal internode 3 cm long. Nodes 1 cm long. Base of the stem with numerous adventitious roots. Adventitious roots up to 1.2 cm in diam., orange-brown with lenticels. The palm is sited on slope, adventitious roots measured on the downward side, forming a basal cone 60 cm tall, 50 cm in diam. No. of leaves 5 + 1 juvenile. Leafsheath 130 cm long, encircling the stem for 85 cm thus forming a crownshaft. Crownshaft dark green, striated. The not encircling part of the leafsheath convex-concave. Petiole 9 cm long, channeled, diam. just below the basal pinna 1.5 x 2.2 cm. Rachis green, adaxilly striated and with prominent midridge, abaxially rounded. No. of pinnae 2 x 32, regularly distributed except for minor displacements making pinnae opposite in some areas and alternated in others. Basal pinnae 56 x 3.5 cm, central pinna 81 x 9 cm, apical pinna 23 x 3.4 cm. Inflorescences; male: At 2nd node below the crownshaft; old decaying inflorescences, except for 1 that has ceased to flower and 1 bud. At 1st node below the crownshaft; 1 decaying inflorescence, 2 that have ceased to flower and 14 buds of different size, becoming smaller towards the margins. Inflorescence, ceased flowering: Prophyll; inserted 0.8 cm above the base, 4.2 cm long, brown, splitting up apically. 1st sterile bract; inserted 1.4 cm above the base, 14.2 cm long. Basal part green, apical 7 cm brown and splitting up irregularly. 2nd sterile bract; inserted 6.5 cm above the base, 24 cm long, green. Apical 15 cm brown, splitting up laterally raight side. 3rd sterile bract; inserted 15.5 cm above the base, 21 cm long, brown to black, dry, splitting up abaxially for 11 cm. 4th sterile bract; inserted 28.5 cm above the base, 4.5 cm long, splitting up right side to the base.Peduncle 37.5 cm long, creamy-white, cross-section nearly circular, diam. just below the basal rachillae 1.2 cm. Rachis 15.5 cm long. No. of rachillae 43. The basal rachilla 8 cm long, the apical rachillae 4.5 cm long. Rachis + rachillae creamy-white.
