| Field notes | Solitary palm 5.5 m tall. Stem 290 cm from base to crownshaft, green with prominent light brown nodes. Diam. at base 6 cm, dbh. 4.5 cm, diam. just below the crownshaft 4.5 cm. No. of internodes 29. Nodes 0.5 cm long. Base of the stem with numerous adventitious roots. Adventitious roots up to 1.3 cm in diam., orange-brown, with lenticels, forming a basal cone 36 cm tall, 45 cm in diam. No. of leaves 3 + 1 juvenile. Leafsheath + petiole 121 cm long, transition hard to measure. Leafsheath encircling the stem for 60 cm thus forming a crownshaft. Crownshaft light green, largest diam. 5.5 cm (at middle). The not encircling part of the leafsheath is channeled. Cross-section just below the basal pinna strait-round 1.4 x 1.5 cm. Rachis 176 cm long, green, adaxially with a pointed mid-ridge, abaxially rounded. No. of pinnae 2 x 24. Pinnae green, slightly falcate, adaxially with prominent veins, abaxially glabrous. Pinnae inserted in one plane, regularly distributed except for minor displacements making pinnae opposite in some areas, alternated in others. Basal pinnae 46 x 4.5 cm, middle pinnae 59 x 7.5 cm, apical pinnae 24 x 4.5 cm. Infructescences: 1 old decaying at node 7 below the crownshaft, 1 young at node 4,3,2 below the crownshaft, 1 flowerbud at node 1 below the crownshaft. Infructescence, immature: Prophyll; inserted 0.4 cm above the base, decaying. 1st sterile bract; inserted 0.7 cm above the base, decaying. 2nd sterile bract; inserted 1.3 cm above the base, 5 cm long, splitting up apically, brown, dry. 3rd sterile bract; inserted 5.1 cm above the base, brown, dry. 4th sterile bract; inserted 11.2 cm above the base, deciduous. Petiole 19. 5 cm long, green. Cross-section ovate, diam. just below the basal rachilla 0.9 x 0.7 cm. Rachis 4 cm long. No. of rachillae 7. Basal rachillae 15 cm long, apical rachillae 13 cm long. Rachis and rachillae green. Immature fruits ovate, green, 1.6 x 1.3 cm. |
