Field notes Solitary palm 5 m tall. Stem 260 cm from base to crownshaft, green. Diam. at the base 6 cm, dbh. 4.4 cm, diam. below the crownshaft, 4.5 cm. No. in internodes 33. Basal internode 5 cm long, apical internode 7 cm long. Base of stem with numerous adventitious roots. Adventitious roots beige to orange-brown, forming a basal cone, 20 cm tall, 30 cm in diam. No. of leaves 5 + 1 juvenile. Leafsheath + petiole 118 cm long, transition hard to measure. Leafsheath encircling the stem for 66 cm thus forming a crownshaft. Crownshaft green, striated, largest diam. 6.5 (at te middle). The not encircling part of the leafsheath channeled. Cross-section just below the basal pinna nearly circular 1.9 x 2.0 cm. Rachis 197 cm long, adaxially striated and with a prominent midridge, abaxially concave. No. of pinnae 2 x 31, inserted in one plane, regularly distributed, opposite, except for minor displacements. Pinnae green, sligthly falcate, adaxilly with prominent veins. Basal pinna 40 x 5 cm, middle pinna 70 x 9 cm, apical pinna 27 x 5 cm. Inflorescences, female; At the 2nd node below the crownshaft reminiscences of an old inflorescence, at 1st node below the crownshaft 13 inflorescences, adnate at the base for 0.5 cm. Of these, 2 are old, decaying, 1 is flowering, 1 nearly flowering, and 9 are buds of different sizes. Inflorescence, flowering: Prophyll; inserted 0.7 cm above the base, 2.5 cm long, splitting up apically. 1st sterile bract; inserted 1.2 cm above the base, 5.7 cm long, splitting up apically. 2nd sterile bract; inserted 8 cm above the base, 10 cm long, apical 7 cm swollen, brown, splitting up irregular (decaying). 3rd sterile bract; inserted 10.5 cm above the base, 14 cm long, the apical 8 cm swollen, brown, splitting up adaxially, irregularly, green to blackish. 4st sterile bract; inserted 14 cm above the base, 2.8 cm long, light green, splitting up laterally left side nearly to the base. Peduncle 24 cm long creamy-white, cross-section circular, diam. below the basal pinnae 1 cm. Rachis 6 cm long. No. of rachillae 29. Basal rachillae 5.2 cm long, apical rachillae 3.5 cm long. Rachis, rachillae and flowers creamy-white.
