Field notes Solitary palm 6.5 m tall. Stem 4.55 m long. Diam. at the base 5 cm, dbh. 4.2 cm, diam. apically 4.5 cm. no. of internodes 68, light green, 4 cm long at the base of the stem, 3.4 cm long below the crownshaft. Nodes prominent, brown with black margins, 0.5 cm long. Base of stem with numerous adventitious roots. Adventitious roots branching, grayish-brown, forming a basal cone 27 cm tall, 55 cm in diam. No. of leaves 5 + 1 juvenile. Leafsheath + petiole 135 cm long, transition hard to distinguish. leafsheath encircling the stem for 55 cm, thus forming a crownshaft. Crownshaft light green. The not encircling part of the leafsheath channeled. Cross-section just below the basal pinna striat-round 1.7 x 1.7 cm. Rachis 230 cm long, green, adaxially with a prominent midridge. No. of pinnae 2 x 27. Pinnae inserted in one plane, regularly distributed except for minor displacements making pinnae opposite in some areas and alternated in others. Pinnae green, slightly falcate, adaxially with prominent veins, abaxially glabrous. Basal pinna 52 x 4.8 cm, middle pinna 66 x 9 cm, apical pinna 25 x 5.5 cm. Inflorescences female; 1 flowerbud at node 1 below the crownshaft, 1 immature infructescence at node 2 + 3 below the crownshaft, 1 mature infructescence at node 7 + 8 below the crownshaft. Flowerbuds erect, immature infructescences somewhat erect, mature infructescences hanging. Infructescences, mature: Prophyll inserted 0.8 cm above the base, deciduous. 1st sterile bract; inserted 1.3 cm above the base, deciduous. 2nd sterile bract; inserted 2.6 cm above the base, deciduous. 3rd sterile bract; inserted 6.5 cm above the base, deciduous. 4th sterile bract; inserted 14.3 cm above the base, deciduous. 5th sterile bract; inserted 24.0 cm above the base, deciduous. Peduncle 29.5 cm long, green. Cross-section circular, diam. below the basal rachillae 1.2 cm. Rachis 8.3 cm long. No. of rachillae 10. Basal rachillae 21 cm long, apical rachillae 16 cm long. Fruits nearly globular 2.2 x 2.0 cm in diam, red, shiny.
